The Woolly Mammoth March, now available!

The Woolly Mammoth March was inspired by the long extinct giant creatures that once roamed this earth. Starting with a brass fanfare, much of the music is heavy, demonstrating the size and weight of the mammoths. Later, a contrasting softer section shows the more gentle side of this mammal. The work closes with thunderous stomping. In the last bars of the piece (49-56) the musicians are encouraged to stomp in the shown rhythm when playing sustained notes (if possible).

This work is now available though JW Pepper and our other distributors.

New major work for Orchestra & Guitar: Reclamation Variations

Reclamation is a set of variations for orchestra that was composed from March to May 2020, during the start of the pandemic. During this time, the health crisis had shown a spotlight on many of the very serious problems in America that need to be resolved going forward. The country is going to have to go through a long and painful reclamation period to restore what has severely eroded over many decades. As a result, this music reflects a somber tone, but also of determination.

The guitar was included because I’ve long felt it has been underrepresented in the orchestra field, and it fit well with the style of this work. However, this is not a concerto for the guitar. If no guitar is available, the music has been cued in other instruments. To further balance the guitar with the orchestra, a microphone may be used with a PA system. Careful attention should be given to make sure the guitar can be heard.

2020: More Music Coming Soon!

During the last week of December 2019, I completed a significantly longer version of the Nordic Overture work.  Nordic Adventure uses the same thematic material, but is about 4 times longer than the original overture.  The idea from this work came from a conductor’s suggestion, as she and her orchestra performed the work in 2018.  Please note that Nordic Adventure will be released by Imagine Music Publishing, and available from JW Pepper and other resellers.

I also completed a new band work for younger bands titled The Woolly Mammoth March.  This fun piece will be available probably in the late Spring or early Summer, 2020.

Right now, I am working on an arrangement of Lost in the Caverns for full Orchestra, which should be fun when it’s completed in February.

Last but not least, we’ll soon be offering a beautiful orchestral work by composer Patrick Brown.  This work will likely be available by the end of February.

Lost in the Caverns, for Guitar Orchestra!

Written as a follow-up work to Creepy Caverns, this piece further expands the musical ideas from the previous composition.  The version is composed in a suite-form of variations that may be performed entirely or individually.

Throughout the months of August and September 2019, I will offer this composition for free in PDF format for any guitar orchestra that will program and record it.   If your ensemble is interested, please contact me.
